Guided tour

Our guide, Marvin Parra was excellent. He knows a lot about the country, the flora & fauna and answered all our questions. We were lucky enough to have a private tour although we had booked the group tour.
One of the best parks in CR for wildlife

This was by far one of my two favorite national park tours in Costa Rica. While in some parks the zip lines scare away a lot of the animals, in this one, we saw something new every few feet (despite there being quite a few people on the large trail). We had a fantastic guide also who was extremely knowledgable about the various species we encountered. Saw many kids on the trail so this is also child friendly. Towards the end, you have an option to either stay on the beautiful beach or continue the trail outside of the park (easy to do on own). There is absolutely no food allowed on the trail, but there's a restaurant and giftshop in the park towards end of trail, right before the beach.
And of course the monkeys were everywhere : )
Get a guide if you go, but not worth the trip

Our guide Marvin was fantastic, but we were very disappointed that we saw very few animals. On our two hour tour he pointed out three sloths, a few birds, an iguana, a spider, and a few frogs. To be clear, we wouldn't have seen any if not for Marvin. He used a scope to spot things we couldn't see with the naked eye. But between the new(ish) policy not allowing food in the park and the dearth of visitors during Covid, the animals no longer have any incentive to hang out near the few miles of visitor. I totally understand that it's better for the animals, but in my opinion the trip across the country to Manuel Antonio is no longer worth the effort.

Hello Rachel,
We are happy to hear from you the guide provided was fantastic. On the other hand we feel bad about how you believe the national park policy affected your perception of the park itself, but it’s important for us to clarify that this new policies are determinate by the government and not by us, so your comment about this topic should be in the “playa manuel antonio” profile which is for the park.
For future visitors Manuel antonio has beautiful beaches, landscapes, good condition hiking trails, plus the mentioned wildlife and some more species that probably were not spotted, but it all of this don’t meet your expectations because you are focus on animal observation, a zoo might be a better option for you.
Thank you very much for reading us, and if any one is interesting on a detailed list on the amount of species we usually see on a tour, we will be happy to provided.

Our guide (Andres) was very knowledgeable and did an amazing job that made the experience really good despite the rather busy park.
Response from Host , Mar 2020
Hello Sven!
Thank you for your commentary. Thank you for visiting Manuel Antonio and using our guided service. Andrés is our star guide, he is passionate on his job and very enthusiastic to show the animals and share his knowledge about the flora and fauna. Unfortunately for you Manuel Antonio is a very famous destination, and there is nothing we can do to limit the numbers of people in the park, maybe a visit during low season will filled your experience. Than you again, we hope you visit again some day.
Best Regards,
Staff

Guide was very good, enjoyed the experience but too many visitors. The trails were packed with large groups so was not a relaxed wildlife experience
Response from Host , Feb 2020
Hello Dear customer! Thank you for your contribution to our profile. Thank you for sharing the excellence of our guide. Unfortunately, the amount of people during high season is not regulated by the local communities of guides or companies. We hope your next time won’t be high season and you can fully enjoy it. Thanks again.

Informative Tour

Response from Host , Jan 2022
Hello Inga. Thank you for giving us your feedback, it is one of our best ways to improve our service. As you mentioned, unfortunately the afternoon tour is not good to spent time at the beach In the due that they closed it at 3 pm, an option in this case is to go to the public one out of the park. Thank you Inga, we hope you come back soon.
We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
