Yellowstone's Fairy Falls And Imperial Geyser Hike
Fairy Falls is Yellowstone's most popular hike, and you can add on another trail from there to Imperial Geyser, which is surrounded by a particularly beautiful pool! The hike takes 5 to 6 hours, from West Yellowstone.
Crossing the Firehole River, we'll walk through the Midway Geyser Basin, coming across a few smaller hot springs, until we see steam billowing off both Grand Prismatic Spring and Excelsior Geyser Crater.
After passing the rear of Grand Prismatic, we'll take a side trail to Fairy Falls, through a forest of new growth lodgepole pine trees. From Fairy Falls we'll make our way across a creek towards Imperial Geyser.
The trail is pretty deserted now, as we meander in and out of forests, and across an open plain. Imperial Geyser is surrounded by a colorful pool and this is where will eat our sack lunches, hopefully watching Imperial erupt as we do so! We’ll visit Spray Geyser on the way back.
The hike is about six miles (9.6 km) round trip.
